Born and educated in Scotland. His interest in photography started while still at school. This progressed to working with the local newspaper on a freelance basis. Although serving an apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering photography still played a large part in his life.

After his apprenticeship he joined the Army where he served for nine years. This was followed by various jobs including theatre lighting with the Rank Organisation. He later joined BBC Scotland and was attached to the Film Unit as an assistant, gaining experience in editing and camera operation. This was followed by ten years with Kodak as a Customer Service Representative responsible for quality control on clients processing and printing equipment covering the North of England and Scottish area.

Leaving Kodak in 1987 he started as a freelance photographer with his major clients including Airlines, Banks and Scotch Whiskey Distillers.

1991 saw a move to California followed by a further move to Las Vegas in 1996. During this time in the USA working on various television projects before returning to the UK in September 2000.

Location work has included trips to Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Cayman Islands, Moscow, France, Germany, Colorado, San Francisco, Hollywood and Las Vegas.

John completed a three-year course in Creative Photography at Glasgow University. A one-man exhibition of his work toured Europe with the sponsorship of Minolta Cameras of Japan. His personal work has also been exhibited in New York, Sydney, Toronto and London and has been awarded Eight Certificates of Merit from Kodak. A series of Fine Art Nudes was included in a special edition of the Spanish Fine Art magazines “La Fotographia” and “Des Nudes”. This series was also published by Body Art Studio in San Francisco as greetings cards and sold the complete run of 5000 copies.

Now resident in The South of England his work is mainly in Commercial, Corporate and Editorial   photography and includes Industrial Landscapes, Environmental and Social issues. This is supplemented by Stock Photography and Fine Art Limited Edition Prints.

A new web site of soft sensual glamour work is planned to go online around June 2005.
